Covid hospitalizations continue to increase in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, which separately reports new daily covid hospitalizations (the state reports total daily census, but not new daily admissions). Houston and Austin have become the center of an outbreak in Texas.
Selected states where new Covid cases, and positivity rate, are both trending up. These are concerning trends and suggest outbreaks are underway. States need to use effective tracing to take targeted mitigation steps that address activities and venues that are sources of spread.
These antibody based Covid drugs could move through development quickly; be available for Fall under an FDA authorization. Their safety and efficacy can be established efficiently given the strong clinical basis for using antibody drugs in similar settings https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/11/health/regeneron-covid-19-antibody-trial-starts/index.html
Review of some available science on asymptomatic transmission of Covid. Summary: while the scope of asymptomatic spread remains subject of discussion, evidence says it exists. And symptomatic people may be most contagious just before they develop symptoms. https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-3012
THREAD: There’s not much research looking at impact of mass gatherings on viral transmission. One recent study of gatherings in Gangelt, Germany (where a Covid outbreak followed) found 2.5X increase in rate of infection of those attending gatherings. 1/2 https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.04.20090076v2

New York City has seen death and disease from Covid fall sharply as a result of its mitigation steps.
A large randomized, placebo controlled #RECOVERY trial in U.K, evaluating hydroxychloroquine in hospitalized COVID patients, and involving 1,542 patients randomized to HCQ versus 3,132 patients randomized to standard of care; found no benefit from HQC arm https://www.statnews.com/2020/06/05/hydroxychloroquine-had-no-benefit-for-hospitalized-covid-19-patients-possibly-closing-door-to-use-of-drug/
COVID19 hospitalization trends of select states that have made the most consistent reporting on new daily Covid hospitalizations. (Figures shown with and without New York, which drove a lot of the early national hospitalizations)
